Lights on Tampa On Friday and Saturday, downtown Tampa will bask in the glow of a free outdoor public art display that has become a signature event since its debut in 2006.

wek_museumglow021915_14696770_8colThis year will have seven installations and performances, all concentrated in the parks and riverfront off of Ashley Drive, so the public can easily access all of them without a lot of walking. Several art installations will light up from 6 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Curtis Hixon Park and Kiley Gardens in downtown Tampa. Food trucks and Cigar City Brewing will provide food and beverages. Paid parking is available at the Poe Parking Garage and Rivergate Tower Parking Garage adjacent to the parks, but bear in mind that the Straz Center has performance both nights with patrons also using those garages. The Lights On Tampa program was developed by the City of Tampa’s Art Programs Division, in conjunction with regional businesses, volunteers, and art supporters. It was an ambitious project that sought to reaffirm Tampa’s commitment to arts and technology by presenting highly visible, innovative light installations created by juried artists.On February 20th and 21st 2015, Lights On Tampa will return to downtown TampaatCurtisHixon Waterfront Park and Kiley Gardens (600 N. Ashley Drive). The event will kick off at 6:30 and ends at 11:00 p.m. Multiple artworks will be installed in and around the park.Additionaly, Lights On Tampa will feature performances by Nick Cave’s HEARD, which will take place both nights at 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.Lights On Tampa 2015 is about connection: Connecting people to place, place to the arts, the arts to people. Art and technology are both avenues in which many things travel. Both are direct extensions of what we are and where are as a city. Recognizing that culture and innovation emerges from the community, Lights On provides a foundation for exploration of ideas and put them in the spotlight.River Glow -Wannemacher Jensen Architects – St. Petersburg – River Glow is an underwater installation that is intended to draw patrons to theRiverwalk.HEARD – Tampa – Nick Cave – Chicago – Internationally recognized performance artist and sculptor Nick Cave is bringing a herd of thirty colorful life-size horses to Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park.HEARD is a magical, choreographed performance that brings local dancers and musicians together, some in costume and accompanied by live music and captures both light and the imagination.

Luftwerk – Chicago – Recurrence is a light art installation that evokes the tidal flow of the Hillsborough River through programmable kinetic LEDs.

Sky Striker is an interactive urban experience that transforms Tampa’s iconic Rivergate Tower into a giant carnival game.
